Why Did I Jump Back on the Lost Bandwagon?

WHAT. THE. FUCK. I have no goddamn clue what just happened. Maybe because I was only half paying attention. I’m definitely just forcing myself due to working with Lost zealots. People who would’ve typed Lost as LOST. That should be a generally accepted way of showing your relative enthusiasm for this clusterfuck of a show. I don’t hate it, and maybe I’ll appreciate it tomorrow when I’m talking with aforementioned zealots, but right now I just wish I never bothered getting caught up.

In fairness to Lost, I feel similarly with regards to Battlestar Galactica. Most shows have a shelf life of a few years in my eyes, it seems. 24 is actually the show that held my attention for the longest while it was running. I watched it for 4 straight seasons (2-5), watching Season 1 in between 2 and 3. But now I’ve given up on that show, along with The Office. I think the internet destroys my ability to enjoy anything for an extended period of time. While my co-workers were awaiting tonight like the second coming of Christ, I could only manage half-hearted nods of agreement with their excitement, and tonight’s episode didn’t do too much to change my general apathy.

If you want a real post about Lost, just go to the A.V. Club. They rock.

reposting this here because i’m a dolt:

It’s definitely not always the type of show that I would step in to defend as far as the plot choices, BUT:

I also argue that much like the first few pages of a good novel which throws the reader into the thick of things (what the bookish folks call “en media res”), the first couple of episodes of a season of LOST are very inscrutable. Did you watch the fourth season? Remember that at the beginning of one episode, we saw Daniel Faraday crying as he saw the remains of Oceanic 815 being discovered on the ocean floor, and we had no idea why; the reasoning wasn’t revealed until several episodes later in the season.

So my advice is to stick with it, man. And ultimately, you’ll never enjoy this show as much on television as you will on DVD. Nature of the beast.

I have stuck with Lost, and will continue to. I just have a bit of a love-hate relationship with it, and I needed to bitch.

Like I mention in the post, working with people who are obsessed with the show will sustain me through the season for sure. Thursday morning I forgot to sign into our automated timesheet program, and we — we including my boss — ended up talking about the premiere until 9:45 (we get in at 9). I had to go back and edit those 45 minutes after one of the secretaries printed out my timesheet and wrote a note asking where I was for that time.
