So… Iron Man Made a Ton of Money
$104,250,000

And adding the international gross, it’s up to $200 million. If Iron Man can pull this off, The Dark Knight is going to be absolutely immense. I know Robert Downey Jr. is awesome, and that the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, but the movie everyone is looking forward to most is The Dark Knight. $150 opening weekend confirmed. Superhero movies are not going anywhere for a while.
What’s really interesting is how this moment feels like a turning point for comic book films as a whole. Studios are starting to realize that these stories can appeal to a much wider audience, not just longtime fans. With stronger scripts, bigger budgets, and more serious storytelling, the genre is evolving into something much more respected. Audiences are no longer just expecting action—they want depth, character development, and memorable performances. In a similar way that consumers are becoming more selective and value-driven—whether in entertainment or even in financial choices like ING’s online savings accounts—people now expect quality, substance, and long-term value in everything they invest their time and attention in.
At the same time, the marketing behind these films has become incredibly strategic, building hype months in advance through trailers, viral campaigns, and fan engagement. It’s creating a kind of cultural event around each release, where opening weekend becomes almost as important as the movie itself. If both films continue to perform at this level, it could set a new standard for future releases. Clearly, the superhero era is just getting started, and it’s only going to get bigger from here.
