Guitar Hero and Harmonix Stuff
If you haven’t heard already, apparently the rumored Guitar Hero 80s Edition is slated for release in June and will retail for $39.99. I was happy to hear that it would be at that lower price point. I don’t believe it’s going to add any more features like Guitar Hero II did, so it might as well be an expansion pack. On the other hand, I still haven’t heard true official news about it, which is really scaring me at this point. That site I linked to doesn’t seem to be the most reliable source.
Meanwhile, IGN (a reliable source, at least most of the time) has confirmed that owners of the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II will be able to download the songs from the original game, in addition to the 10 new songs already included. Nice to hear, considering the first installment of the series had inarguably the better song list; they’re just going to be ridiculously easy to play compared to some of the note charts Harmonix threw in the sequel. Also, Joystiq says that the instruction booklet includes something about an “effects pedal.” Sounds plausible enough and the photos don’t look photoshopped, so that’s another plus for Xbox 360 owners. They were able to get their hands on the game due to Wal-Mart and Circuit City breaking the street date. Seems to happen a lot with Guitar Hero games.
And you probably heard that Harmonix was pulled off the next main installment of the Guitar Hero franchise. They’re owned by MTV now, and Game|Life reports that on Monday they will announce their next project, which will be published by EA. Shit, I can’t even listen to “EA Trax” when I play Burnout Revenge, so I sure as hell don’t want to play them.
