According to EGM, Guitar Hero: 1980s Edition is in production and will ship sometime in the Spring (presumably alongside Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360). With the game only three to four months away (and still unannounced), EGM could only say “trust us; it’s coming.”

I’m guessing it’s for the PS2. That’s where all the sales have come for the franchise so far. I hope there’s more about it in that EGM February issue. I need to know if it’s more metal along the lines of the stuff in Guitar Hero II, or it’s going to be all the ridiculous pop songs from the 80s. Either way, I will eat it up, but I really want Metallica. And Iron Maiden. I’m so pissed that Maiden is only on the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II. Regardless, this is awesome news. I really hope they keep the price at 40 bucks for game-only this time around, but I doubt it. They know they have everyone by the balls.

Joystiq reports it is for PS2, thankfully. I hope they pump out a few more GH games for PS2. They’d be smart to…I doubt people would pony up the cash to get a PS3 just for the GH games. I know I wouldn’t.

Yea, I think Activision will release at least one more installment on PS2 after this one. The PS2 isn’t going to die anytime soon, and Activision has to recognize that. There will be a lot of people not willing to pay the money for a PS3, or even Xbox 360, for a while. The lack of more info makes me a bit leery, as the game is supposed to come out soon.
