I’m going to get rid of this awesome graphic on the side of my blog. Hey, maybe I’ll bring it back when Conan’s show on TBS is about to start up for a reminder to everyone, but for now, I’m not with Coco. Not because I don’t still love him, but because I didn’t even buy a ticket for his NYC shows. In my defense, I found out about an hour after they came on sale, and by then they were all gone, but a real Coco supporter would have been on the ball. A real Conan fan would have watched The Tonight Show more often than sporadicly after the first couple of weeks.

But I did and still do feel some connection with him, since he was always my late-night host. It just so happens that I haven’t watched any late-night shows religiously for a long, long time. I watched Late Night through my prepubescent and adolescent years if I was up that late. Some point along there I started watching The Daily Show as well — even before Jon Stewart was the host. Remember Craig Kilborn? Sure you don’t.

But once I hit college, those TV viewing habits fell to the wayside. It wasn’t just late-night shows, it was practically all television. In the years that followed, I got into The Colbert Report for a little while, but even that interest quickly faded.

And this was how it went until it was announced that Conan would get The Tonight Show. Conan! It was what all his fans had been waiting for. I naturally watched the last few weeks of his awesome show and eagerly waited for his new gig. Little did I know it wouldn’t last a year.

And maybe it was my fault. Maybe it was all our faults. His fans didn’t watch his show nearly as much as they did years ago, and the people who loved Leno weren’t about to warm up to Conan. My parents are probably not indicative of their age group, as they actually love Conan, but it’s not like they stay up to watch late-night shows. So we all failed. Sure, it was really Jay Leno’s fault, but Conan was made expendable by his ratings.

And for being part of the problem, I do not deserve to display his banner.

The Beastie Boys’ video for “Sabotage” is probably one of the defining pieces of entertainment of our generation. The song is already awesome on its own, and the video just took it to another level. Everyone knows it. Everyone loves it. And any reference or use of it is immensely entertaining (like the end of this Conan bit during the writers’ strike). So I can safely say the following “Galactica” mashup easily eclipses the “Han Solo P.I.” one that was created last year. I pretty much lose it when Adama is pointing at his head.

If you need visual aid to prove just how perfectly this video matches up with the original, hit the jump.

I can only imagine how many hours this shit took to piece together.

This is how I watched it. Yes, I missed the final Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien after making multiple posts about the whole NBC trainwreck the past two weeks; I am officially part of the problem. I chose a girl over Conan. I chose wrong. For penance, I will watch at least a whole month of Conan’s late-night show on FOX — and if not that, whatever he does next.

There’s not much I can say about this final show — you just need to watch it. You need to watch the montage and Steve Carell’s exit interview and Neil Young’s performance and Conan’s farewell speech and the closing Freebird rockout. Only Conan would end his show that way.

I just got done watching the best late-night television in years. David Letterman ripped Jay Leno, NBC, and Carson Daly. Conan O’Brien just didn’t give a crap, going straight after Leno and NBC. But then Jimmy Kimmel came on and outdid everyone by doing the entire show as Jay Leno. It was incredible up until Elisha Cuthbert came on as a guest and, though she looked hot, was a godawful interview who didn’t know how to handle what Kimmel was doing. Craig Ferguson also jumped in and called out NBCÂ liars. It was pretty awesome all around, especially since multiple hosts made fun of Carson Daly as well.

I’ll just link to this post on Gawker.tv, since they have EVERYTHING covered. But so there’s actually something in this post, I’ll embed two YouTube videos of Kimmel doing Leno; between Kimmel’s ridiculous impersonation, the band, and the Kevin Eubanks stand-in, this is television perfection.

I HIGHLY recommend clicking on the link and watching the Letterman and Conan clips, though.

Anyone that knows me personally is most likely aware of my dad’s affinity for Magnum P.I., and that seasons of it on DVD are now my designated fallback gift for him. It used to be U2 albums. Pretty sure this is an upgrade. Bono has dumb sunglasses instead of an awesome ‘stache.

Why am I talking about Magnum P.I.? Because the following is an attempt to emulate its opening credits, only with Star Wars scenes. Now, I’m not the biggest Star Wars fan, but I think we can all agree Han Solo is the coolest guy in the entire series. Han Solo P.I. would be a pretty sweet show, if Harrison Ford grew the prerequisite mustache. (Side note: Just found out that my usual spelling — moustache — is the predominant British spelling, while mustache is the American one. So I obviously need to go with the latter from now on. U-S-A)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYntjR4-pY4

If you are not familiar with Magnum’s credit sequence, hit the jump to have your mind blown. And not just by a side-by-side comparison of this mashup and the original, but also by something from The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. Oh yeah.

And now the Conan awesomeness, courtesy of Serious Lunch.
