I think this works as a regular feature, like I Watch Movies Sometimes. So by “regular” I mean “approximately twice a year.”

Over the weekend, the internet “leaked” a red band trailer of the American adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the version I’ve been looking forward to since the announcement of David Fincher at its helm. Many people have put the quotation marks around “leaked” since Sony Pictures could have taken down the YouTube’d bootleg trailer before it came close to accumulating a few hundred thousand views. But it seems now the green band trailer has officially hit the web. The difference between red band and green band is that the former indicates an R-rated trailer, which means the latter has cut out the blood and boobs. I naturally prefer the red band, as it revels in the violent nature of the material more, but the two trailers are in almost every way exactly alike.

Trailer courtesy of Movie-List, via The Film Stage.

Other than Fincher’s involvement, I’m looking forward to the film due to Trent Reznor composing another score for him. I have no clue whether the trailer music is reflective of the film score, but no matter how you may feel about the cover of “Immigrant Song”, you have to admit it fits the trailer perfectly. Add that to Reznor’s fantastic work on The Social Network, and I’m confident he will know exactly how to score anal rape and serial killing.

And that brings me to why I’m looking forward to Fincher tackling this book: he does his best work when dealing with serial killers. Not to mention his movies are stylish as fuck. Anyone who can cut the story of Facebook into a fast-paced two-hour film simultaneously following the initial creation of the website, along with two separate depositions for lawsuits that were spawned by the site, is an extremely talented director. Ok, maybe he had help from Aaron Sorkin in creating the script that made those scenes so entertaining, but Fincher’s directing was probably the star of the film. I need to watch The King’s Speech just so I can say how little directing was even needed for such Oscar bait. “Just point the camera at the great actor with the stutter! People will eat that shit up!”

While The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is over half a year away (note the “Feel Bad Movie of Christmas” tagline), the next piece of entertainment is even further away. It should be arriving next year, but who knows with Blizzard? I could be talking about either Diablo III or the first expansion to Starcraft II here. But this time I’ll just post the first gameplay footage of SCII: Heart of the Swarm. There’s not really much to get excited about in the video, though, especially considering how shitty appearance of the main character, Kerrigan. I’ll probably make a dedicated post to Diablo III in the near future.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRWzB7T0LBw

To get to something that will come out soon, a trailer for the fourth season of Breaking Bad hit the web yesterday. It consists solely of scenes from previous seasons — whether that’s a positive or negative is up to you. I’m just glad I got a reminder one of the two best shows on television is back in July, which is only one month away. This summer has really sneaked up on me. If you haven’t watched Breaking Bad yet, get started now.

I try not to spoil stuff usually, but I’m just going to pretend anyone actually caring to read this post watches Breaking Bad, and if you don’t, you haven’t listened to me enough.

While the House voted on health care reform, the best show on television came back with a bang — more like an explosion really. You’ve seen it in every promo. The twins calmly walking away from an exploding van was just the cherry on top of an episode which featured them being total badasses without saying a word. (Apparently, that was a real explosion.) I think badassery has an inverse relationship with loquaciousness.

The episode was both wrap-up and set-up, dealing with the consequences of the crash of last season, but also dropping the bomb of Skylar knowing where Walt got all that money, and Walt revealing the exact nature of his business — he’s a manufacturer! He also declines a 3-million-dollar offer– but I feel like he’ll come crawling back to that in a few episodes.

Meh, you know what, screw this; I can’t bring myself to write about a 43-minute episode of television. Sure, I can conjure up a blog post about a film that’s three times as long, but I don’t think anyone is coming to this blog for a mediocre-to-bad analysis of a Breaking Bad episode. Am I wrong here? I’ll direct you to a couple of reviews if that’s what you really want.

A.V. Club
Alan Sepinwall

The more important thing today is health care reform. It passed. But that I can’t write about at all because I know nothing and I don’t like to pretend I know something when I really don’t — unlike 90% of people out there. And approximately 99% of the protesters. This is why I write about baseball a lot — because I know it better than you. My fantasy results prove it! But yeah, I’m happy the Democrats at least showed some semblance of balls pushing this through. So the blog post title is a lie, ok? So sue me. Hell, Glenn Beck tomorrow might be better than tonight’s season premiere episode of Breaking Bad.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the cold open for tonight’s episode had to be the most bizarre I’ve ever seen.

So one of my GIFs showed up on one of my favorite blogs this past week. One of my prouder internet moments, sadly. To think I peaked like two years ago getting linked by Deadspin. When I posted this news on Twitter, someone mentioned Breaking Bad GIFs. And on the blog linked above, someone also asked for Breaking Bad GIFs. Between those two wishes, and the Season 2 release on DVD next week, and Season 3 starting the next week, I decided to fill this void on the internet a little bit.

The show is easily one of the best on television. As I’ve stated before: Mad Men and Breaking Bad are basically 1A and 1B. And they compliment each other well, as one is set in a 1960s fantasy world littered with obscenely attractive human beings, while the other is a contemporary story following a middle-aged, dying high school science teacher whose life is as depressingly real as it gets — at least until he decides to cook meth.

You’ll have to hit the jump to check out the eight GIFs arranged in perfect harmony. I may have to fix the very first one, as not being able to make out some of the text is annoying the shit of the OCD side of me.

- I bought a moleskine notebook just so I could call it overpriced and overrated. The Mac of (writing) notebooks, if you will.

- Breaking Bad is the best show on television right now. Have I said this already? Too bad.

- I am worse than Morty Seinfeld when it comes to hot deals. Steam = Wizard Tip Calculator.

- If you don’t remember when Facebook was for college students only, you’re part of the problem.

- I only hear good things about Friday Night Lights, but I can’t get over my aversion to ever watching another minute of high school football (dramatized or not). Twenty movies was enough. I don’t want…your life.

- I would like to see a movie where the princess isn’t attractive.

- This is where we come to the consensus that Wish You Were Here was Pink Floyd’s best album.

- The MLB regular season not starting until April 5th is the current bane of my existence. I now hate the World Baseball Classic.

- College basketball gets worse every year. I am qualified to speak on this due to me not watching a minute of it in regulation this year (damn 6OT game).

- There is something immensely entertaining about Patrick Warburton dropping an F-bomb. I only wish he was allowed such an opportunity in Seinfeld.

- I now personally know someone with a Kindle. That makes me feel stupid by association. And I bought a Blu-ray player.
