I always found the following lyrics that close Nine Inch Nails – “I Do Not Want This” to be pretty spot-on. Maybe they’ve only popped back into my head due to listening to The Social Network soundtrack recently (which is fucking incredible, by the way). Trent Reznor is one talented motherfucker.

I want to know everything
I want to be everywhere
I want to fuck everyone in the world
I want to do something that matters

Does it really need explaining?

But it got me to thinking; I thought about how I would break it down into my personal components. I feel overwhelmed with how many different things I would love to do at any point in time and I end up deciding on none of them. Sometimes this is due to laziness; other times, depression. Right now, I’m going to lean towards the latter. It’s hard to focus on anything when you are just not happy in the slightest. I blame the long waits between rounds of MLB playoffs. I haven’t watched a game since Monday! So depressing.

Of the things that populate this list, some aren’t serious, some are very unlikely, some are impossible — and it’s certainly impossible to do all of them. Some things are simple activities, others are lifelong ventures. Some things are general, others are arbitrarily specific. Some things are just emotional and behavioral traits that I wish were different. But they are all things that crowd my head and fill me with disappointment when it comes to not accomplishing any of them. And this list definitely isn’t all-inclusive.

I want to:

Read every halfway decent book.
Watch every film Armond White has given a negative review.
Learn how to play Go.
Solve every crossword puzzle.
Play through every acclaimed video game.
Be better than you at every multiplayer video game.
Create an iPhone app.
Travel to every country the average person actually knows.
Live in numerous cities.
Write in my journal each night Doug-style.
Attend an Olympics.
Be closer with my friends and family.
See the Earth from space.
Take beautiful pictures.
Fall painfully in love again.
Experience a World Cup firsthand.
Accumulate a million Twitter followers.
Write a book.
Decimate my carbon footprint.
Upload a video to YouTube that subsequently goes viral.
Pen a movie script.
Learn to dance well.
Donate and volunteer more.
Run a 5K in 24 minutes.
Master Photoshop.
Keep abreast of every development and breakthrough in science.
Try stand-up comedy.
Listen to every well-known album.
Game the stock market.
Become a monster at chess.
Eat at a three-Michelin-star restaurant.
Blog everyday.
Stop being a moronic poker player.
Formulate some semblance of a coherent worldview.
Bang everyone’s mom — and well.
Learn to draw and paint.
Frustrate people with my Scrabble ability.
Peruse every influential newspaper and magazine.
Check out every beloved television show.
Pick up the guitar.
Let go of pointless regrets.
Keep up with every interesting blog.
Build a PC.
Not care what anyone thinks.
Watch every important sporting event.
Hustle douchebags at pool and darts.
Learn a bunch of languages.
Initiate conversation effortlessly with anyone.
Memorize dozens of mixed drinks.
Become a scratch golfer.
Get awesome at tennis.
Run a Major League baseball team.
Taste every beer and wine and spirit.
Be able to discuss politics intelligently.
Buy a front-row seat to the final of every major sport.
Have the ability to bust out 100 pushups in a row.
Develop some sense of style.
Learn to cook awesome shit.
Get a chance to start over.

And I want to do all these things while getting at least seven hours of sleep a night.

Then again, maybe every trailer with action scored by Nine Inch Nails is bound to get me excited. The 300 trailer with “Just Like You Imagined” is still fucking amazing.

I used to post more movie trailer on here, I feel, and what better way to start doing that again than with what will possibly be the blockbuster of the year.

I’m not even going to attempt to make sense of the Terminator storyline at this point. T2 contradicted T1, and then T3 contradicted T2, when time travel in the sense of T1 contradicted itself in the first place. I don’t even want to think about how the TV series factors in. So some Terminator thinking he’s human — like a Cylon — doesn’t seem out of the realm of possiblity within this franchise’s universe. I just want action and some sense of the indomitability of the human spirit. Wait, no, that last part pussied up this whole post. More explosions! I hear tits are also shown! YES!

P.S. If you want to see a full HD version of the trailer, go here. Or go see Watchmen this weekend.

Apparently, it’s taking many people a long time to get their e-mails, but I got mine immediately. Trent knew I was listening to my The Downward Spiral CD this morning, and he rewarded me. Or maybe my e-mail was already in the database or something, from when Ghosts I-IV was released. I just know I’m currently downloading both the MP3 and FLAC versions of the album for FREE. LEGALLY.

I guess since I hadn’t made many music posts for a while, I’m making a bunch now. But I really want to go to this festival. Looking at the Bonnaroo lineup again, there weren’t as many bands I want to see as I remembered. Pearl Jam, Metallica, and My Morning Jacket are pretty much the extent. Plus, the ticket price, with all the extra fees they tack on, comes close to $275. No thanks.

If we get Lollapalooza tickets soon, they’re $190. 30% cheaper. Not to mention Bonnaroo is almost 200 miles further away. That comes out to like $50 in gas round-trip.

Anyway, without further ado, the lineup:

Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails, Kanye West, Wilco, the Raconteurs, Love and Rockets, Gnarls Barkley, Lupe Fiasco, Bloc Party, the Black Keys, Broken Social Scene, Flogging Molly, Mark Ronson, Cat Power, the National, G. Love & Special Sauce, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Explosions in the Sky, Brand New, Gogol Bordello, Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks.

Dierks Bentley, Okkervil River, Amadou & Mariam, Blues Traveler, John Butler Trio, Girl Talk, CSS, Battles, Jamie Lidell, Butch Walker, Mates of State, Spank Rock, Brazilian Girls, Chromeo, Duffy, the Kills, Rogue Wave, the Go! Team, Mason Jennings, the Gutter Twins, Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear, MGMT.

The Weakerthans, Booka Shade, Santogold, Black Kids, Black Lips, Louis XIV, Dr. Dog, Nicole Atkins & the Sea, the Ting Tings, Kid Sister, Office, the Cool Kids, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Does it Offend You, Yeah?, the Whigs, Manchester Orchestra, Foals, Uffie, the Octopus Project, Cadence Weapon, Ferras, De Novo Dahl, Noah and the Whale, Margot & the Nuclear So and So’s, K’Naan, Serena Ryder, Newton Faulkner, Your Vegas.

Eli “Paperboy” Reed & the True Loves, Steel Train, Bang Camaro, the Blakes, Tally Hall, White Lies, Magic Wands, Electric Touch, Innerpartysystem, the Postelles, the Parlor Mob, Bald Eagle, Krista, Ha Ha Tonka, Witchcraft, We Go to 11, Sofia Talyik.

In bold, bands I NEED to see, while bands I might want to see are in initials.

Those three headliners are holy fuck awesome. Not many places I rather be sweating my nuts off in the summer heat than in a crowd moshing to Rage or NIN, grooving to The Black Keys, or zoning out to Radiohead or EITS.

After being exposed to my music taste, most of the editors at Pitchfork wouldn’t know whether to laugh, cry, or hurl. On the other hand, I don’t write elitist bullshit like this:

And “The Funeral” is a song that people connect to, as reader emails continue to attest. So long as it doesn’t end up soundtracking some crummy indie movie, it’ll be ours forever.

That’s from their “Top 100 Tracks of 2006.” I meant to write a short post about this the second I heard the song in SKATE, but I (as usual) procrastinated. So let me say it now: OWNED. It wasn’t even an indie film, it was a fucking VIDEO GAME. And now it’s in a Ford Focus commercial too! Band of Horses sold out big time. I wonder if Pitchfork even likes them anymore.

So anyhow, here are my favorite tracks of the 2007:

Hyperpower! – Nine Inch Nails
I thought about adding the second track of Year Zero after this, but I figured Daft Punk could follow it up good enough.

Around the World/Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger – Daft Punk
I usually hate electronic music. So for me to love this song means it is pure, unadulterated awesome.

United States – Smashing Pumpkins
Unfortunately, this is a live version. And Corgan really can’t sing live…or in the studio for that matter. Maybe I should’ve picked another song off the album. I really love the studio version, though.

Do Me A Favour – Arctic Monkeys
I really love a lot of songs on Favourite Worst Nightmare, and was tempted to pick another song, but I’ve listened to this one by far the most.

Fake Empire – The National
Good, simple song. I like the guy’s deep voice and the mini-crescendo near the end. Yeah.

Reckoner – Radiohead
Amazing. Thom Yorke’s voice is beautiful.

Underdogs – Manic Street Preachers
A band that never really got that popular over here in the U.S, but has some clout in the indie community. Never heard them until this year. Much different from their older stuff, but I really enjoy this song.

Misfit Love – Queens of the Stone Age
I’ve listened to Sick, Sick, Sick more, but I figured I’d choose a non-single.

The Pretender – Foo Fighters
Especially since I picked this over-played single. I’m not a huge Foo Fighters fan, but you know, their singles are always damn solid.

Pioneer to the Falls – Interpol
Great song. I’m not good at describing why I like songs.

Is There a Ghost – Band of Horses
Never used to be a fan of high-pitched singers, but I guess I’ve grown accustomed to a few. I still rather have a better singer, but this song manages to be good with what – 14 words?

Antichrist Television Blues – Arcade Fire
“No Cars Go” is my favorite song on Neon Bible, but it’s a recreation of the song from their debut EP. I love this song because Win Butler (the singer) is doing his best Bruce Springsteen impression. Such a great, great song with damn good lyrics. The Boss is a fan, so you should be too.

I was thinking about putting a Chevelle song on here, but they blatantly ripped off a Tool riff in one of their songs. I spliced together a clip of the offense. Maybe I’ll post it up on Pownce…unfortunately, I have basically no friends on it.

Actually, I started to post all these songs up on Pownce. I stopped once I realized you need to be friends with the person who’s posting the mp3s.
