Yes, Conan Is Still Doing The Tonight Show This Week

I’ll kick off the post by once again directing you to Gawker.tv, like every other post I’ve made on this topic. The highlight of tonight had to be Norm McDonald’s surprise appearance on The Tonight Show.

Everyone Hates Leno

I just got done watching the best late-night television in years. David Letterman ripped Jay Leno, NBC, and Carson Daly. Conan O’Brien just didn’t give a crap, going straight after Leno and NBC. But then Jimmy Kimmel came on and outdid everyone by doing the entire show as Jay Leno. It was incredible up until Elisha Cuthbert came on as a guest and, though she looked hot, was a godawful interview who didn’t know how to handle what Kimmel was doing. Craig Ferguson also jumped in and called out NBC liars. It was pretty awesome all around, especially since multiple hosts made fun of Carson Daly as well.

I’ll just link to this post on Gawker.tv, since they have EVERYTHING covered. But so there’s actually something in this post, I’ll embed two YouTube videos of Kimmel doing Leno; between Kimmel’s ridiculous impersonation, the band, and the Kevin Eubanks stand-in, this is television perfection.

Conan is Back, You Twitface

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for a year, you know that Conan O’Brien has taken the reins of The Tonight Show from Jay Leno. Well, he started this Monday. I watched the first two nights, and while the first show definitely showcased Conan’s nerves — and surprisingly uneven sketches considering the preparation time — the second show definitely stepped it up. Tom Hanks being a much better guest than Will Farrell helped. Man, I am so sick of Will Farrell. As the A.V. Club review mentioned, in that opening show they featured a clip from Land of the Lost where Farrell pours urine on himself…and no one laughed. I guess it’s not real urine, but still — that’s a new low. I mean, at least people laughed in my theater when John Turturro got pissed on in Transformers.

The second night had an awesome sketch where Conan got dressed up like a native Los Angeles-(ian)? It also had Tom Hanks getting hit in the head with a meteor. Even the bit making fun of Twitter was pretty OK. Not to mention how much more comfortable Conan seemed.

And then tonight they even stepped it up again with In The Year 3000, especially with regards to bashing social networking. Of course, some jokes were better than others, but the final one was perfect — so perfect I’m shocked no one has thought of it before:

God, I love Conan.

Jimmy Fallon to Take Over for Conan on “Late Night”

One more reason to go to bed earlier: not having to see this face.

I read some news the other day that Craig Ferguson was beating Conan in the ratings. Apparently, NBC is fighting back by trying to out-suck CBS.

I shouldn’t be ripping on Ferguson — I’ve never even watched his show. I’m just lashing out at this horrific decision. It’s not like I watch Conan religiously (or really at all anymore), but when I’m up late and just want to plop down and watch TV, I know I’m not going to turn to NBC anymore. I don’t think anyone will, considering most teenage girls probably don’t stay up long enough to watch “Late Night” anyway. And anyone who turns to the channel will no doubt change the channel the minute he pulls out his guitar and tries to be Adam Sandler, but fails miserably.

I hear that Dane Cook was the other guy being considered. He may get a lot of hate, but he fits almost the exact same demographic and is better than JIMMY FALLON. Actually, exact same demographic isn’t even fair to Dane Cook. I’ve laughed at Dane Cook before. Who the hell is running NBC? No wonder Conan always makes fun of his own network. At least it’s got 30 Rock. Which is now officially better than The Office, by the way. Post incoming.
