REAL TALK – 6/28/10

2010 June 28

I haven’t done one of these in a while, have I?

- I feel like such a massive douchenozzle for ever doubting David Wright. I didn’t draft him with either of my first-round draft picks in fantasy, and he was gone by both my second picks. And then I allowed him to go for $33 in my auction draft. That actually is decently high, but I paid more for Prince Fielder. What a fuckface I am.

- I admit it: I’ve never gotten the appeal of the “Auto-Tune the News” thing.

- I just saw some people describe the first two seasons of Friday Night Lights as soap opera-y. Sorry, I only watch soap operas with amazing production values that air on AMC.

- Speaking of which, I think I’m going to end up buying this poster.

- It’s kinda amazing how FIFA consists of more national teams than their are member states in the United Nations. Especially considering how much a joke FIFA seems to be.

- It took until I was 24 years old for me to get my first, “I used to have a crush on you.” I feel like that’s kinda sad.

- Red Dead Redemption convinced me to tell myself not to buy any games for a while (except for Starcraft 2). Steam constantly makes such a pronouncement extremely difficult to adhere to. Really, Left 4 Dead 2 for 10 bucks? Yet I resisted. Perhaps I am developing some semblance of willpower.

- I think we can all agree that The Shield has one of the best series finales of all-time. But it also has one of the best series premieres. What other show(s) can say that?

- Do not slam your putter length-wise into the ground, no matter how half-assed you might think the slam will be.

- Girls really do dig guys with iPhones – I witnessed it firsthand. Maybe I should carry around my iPod Touch and pretend it’s an iPhone.

- INCEPTION is less than three weeks away. I wonder how many (more) wet dreams I’ll have about it between now and July 16th.

- In case you were wondering: yes, oil is still pouring into the Gulf of Mexico. I say we nuke the site from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure. I’m so original.

This is the kind of post I can get behind. Very little baseball.

How’d your “I used to have a crush on you” come about? Its not sad it took til you were 24. It really isn’t. It’ll probably happen a lot more now.

Hey, the last two posts were about soccer and MMA!

And it went from “I was mean to you on the middle school bus” to “I think that might have been because I had a crush on you” to “Yeah, I had a crush on you.” I think there was a beer in between each of those steps.

    I’m a huge Shield fan.

I haven’t watched the first season in a coon’s age, so I don’t remember the premiere beyond Terry getting got.

But the whole last season of The Shield is really the best climax of a TV show I’ve ever seen.

I’ve been playing Red Dead. It’s awesome and it makes me want to rewatch Deadwood.

You continue to impress me with your taste. I actually need to watch Deadwood — it’s near the top of my must-watch list.

How far are you in Red Dead? It was extremely cool at first, but I think that was mostly the setting covering up its flaws. I just reached Mexico and I really have no urge to keep playing. It’s pretty tedious. I had a bit of fun playing online once with a group of online buddies, but I should really just pawn it off while its resell value is still high.

      • Malcolm

I’ve played more online in RDR than single player. Group of like 4-5 of us play.

I enjoy the slow pace and the environment, though I suppose I can see it getting boring. But I use it primarily for online and I do the single player slowly so hopefully I won’t get sick of it. I enjoy just roaming around doing the hunting missions.

I believe the last single player mission I did was where that gang tried to hang Bonnie

Yeah, you’re not far at all. I’m quite a bit past you and apparently *I* have a lot left. Maybe I should play more online, because I did enjoy it, but I think I rather just play something else at that point with better controls. Right now I’ve actually been playing through SC1 single-player.

Side note: this comment threading seems like a fucking disaster.

    Scattered responses:

    - FIFA is the most corrupt, dysfunctional international organization around. They make the IOC look good. There are innumerable tales of FIFA idiocy that would make your head spin.

    - I’m at the same spot in RDR and feeling somewhat similar to you. Guess I’ll forge ahead and see what it has to offer South of the border. Not feeling as motivated as I’d like, though.

    - Yes, you should watch Deadwood.

I guess I’ll watch Deadwood at some point after my Blu-rays of The Prisoner (original UK series) and S1 of Sons of Anarchy. Need to watch The Sopranos at some point, too.

      • Cornballer

Definitely give SoA a shot first – it’s not like we’re getting any more episodes of Deadwood at this point.

I’d suggest a group viewing of The Sopranos with you, me, and EricWK, but I assume that you guys would tear through it a lot faster than me.

      • http://somewhatmanlynerd.com/blog CajoleJuice

Nah, I’m not too quick nowadays. But yeah, it seems like EricWK would blow past both of us.
